Miscellaneous Moths from Plate 12
Alfalfa Webworm moth. I found this moth by the Great Miami River near Middletown, on August 2, 2020. I have seen a few individuals there from June through September. This species is apparently more common in the western U.S. than in the east, although it has a wide range.
White-spotted Brown moth. This individual came to my lights on August 22, 2023. I also have one sighting at Huffman Prairie. Those are my only two sightings.
Garden Webworm. I find these moths from July through October. This one was photographed at Cox Arboretum. They also come to my lights.
Pale-winged Crocidophora. I have seen a few of these moths at my lights in the months of June and July.
This moth is in the Hahncappsia genus, but several moths in this genus are difficult to identify to species.
White-roped Glaphyria. A few of these moths have come to my lights in July, August, and September.
Guenee's Pearl moth. This is also my only sighting of the species. Photographed August 1, 2024.
Scarce Straw Pearl, photographed August 6, 2024. I only have a single observation of this species.
Another Hahncappsia moth (species unknown). I find Hahncappsia moths at my lights from May through August.
Black-patched Glaphyria. A couple of these moths visited my lights in July 2025.
Another White-roped Glaphyria. Their host plant is reportedly Live Oak in southern states, but they must be using a different host plant in our area.
Another Pale-winged Crocidophora. They have translucent patches on the upper portion of their wings.
