CROCUS GEOMETER/ FALSE CROCUS GEOMETER

Crocus Geometers and False Crocus Geometers are currently treated as two separate species, but recent tests have shown their DNA to be identical. The species might be combined at some point, but it has not officially happened yet. The two species cannot be reliably distinguished from photos.

I find Crocus/ False Crocus Geometers from late May through early September.

These beautiful yellow moths are fairly common in our area. I often encounter them in the woods while I am hiking during the daytime.

Some individuals, like this one, are much more heavily spotted than others. The spots are quite variable.
