ipsilon dart & iris borer
This is an Iris Borer Moth. The larvae feed on iris rhizomes.
Ipsilon Dart. This is an abundant species in our area, and it is considered an agricultural pest.
Ipsilon Darts have a worldwide distribution. In England, they are called Dark Sword-grass moths.
Another Iris Borer. I have found a few of these moths at my lights from late August through November. (There are a lot of irises in my yard to attract them!)
Another Ipsilon Dart. The name comes from the wedge-shaped marking on its wings, which resembles the Greek letter upsilon.
Iris Borers can be something of a pest if you are trying to grow irises, but the moths are very beautiful.
I have found Ipsilon Darts every month from March through December.
Another Iris Borer that came to my black lights.
