rose hooktip, ARCHED HOOKTIP, TUFTED thyatirine, and Dogwood Thyatirid

This is an Arched Hooktip moth, the only one I have found at my home lights. These moths are more common in eastern Ohio. Found on September 7, 2024.

This is a Tufted Thyatirine moth, photographed at my moth lights on August 27, 2021. I only have two sightings of this species - this one and another on June 14, 2024.

This is a Rose Hooktip moth. I have found a few individuals at my lights from June through September.

Rose Hooktip moths can be attracted with UV lights, and I also found one while hiking at Cedar Bog. These moths are convincing dead leaf mimics. They can safely perch atop leaves in plain sight without being noticed by birds.

This is a Dogwood Thyatirid moth. This is not the greatest photo, because this moth was found deceased along a trail. I found it at Twin Creek MetroPark on April 13, 2024, at (appropriately) Dogwood Pond. This is my only local sighting of the species. These moths are more common in eastern Ohio.

Another Dogwood Thyatirid moth, found at Hocking Hills on April 16, 2016.

Another Arched Hooktip moth. This one was found at Hocking Hills (eastern Ohio). I have seen a couple of Arched Hooktips there in April and May.
